These six math browser games offer a break from worksheets while using logic, number relationships and geometry—ideas relevant to AMC 8 problem-solving. Choose one, try it, and explain your decisions.

1. The Password Game

Focus: calculation and checking conditions

Create a password that meets increasingly unusual rules. Adding characters can upset earlier digit totals or other requirements, so you must keep checking and revising the whole solution.

2. Sumplete

Focus: addition and elimination

Delete numbers until every row and column reaches its target sum. Each cell affects two totals, making the puzzle about linked conditions as well as addition.

3. Nerdle

Focus: arithmetic and deduction

Guess a hidden eight-character equation in six attempts. Each guess must be mathematically correct; coloured clues help you identify the digits, operators and their positions.

4. Mathler

Focus: working backwards and operation order

Find a hidden expression that equals a given target. Use number combinations and colour clues to narrow the possibilities across six guesses.

5. Euclidea

Focus: geometry and construction

Solve geometric puzzles using a virtual straightedge and compass. Aim for an exact construction with fewer steps. Advanced levels extend beyond AMC 8 content.

6. 2048

Focus: doubling patterns and planning

Slide matching tiles together to double their values and work towards 2048. Plan your moves to preserve space and create future merges.

Alongside AMC 8 Practice

Use these games as short mathematical warm-ups, then apply the same habits to AMC 8 strategy problems. Keep past-paper practice and solution review at the centre of your preparation.

Math Browser Games FAQ

Start with a small Sumplete grid for addition and elimination, or 2048 for doubling patterns. Try Nerdle or Mathler once you are comfortable with basic arithmetic and operation order.

The Password Game, Sumplete, Nerdle, Mathler and 2048 offer free browser play. Euclidea also lets you begin its browser levels. Optional accounts, apps and extra features may have separate terms.

They provide opportunities to practise checking conditions, finding patterns and working backwards. Use them as short warm-ups alongside AMC 8 problems, past papers and solution review, rather than as a complete preparation course.

Playing does not guarantee higher scores. The useful learning step is explaining a decision, identifying an error and applying the idea to a mathematical problem beyond the game.

Choose by mathematical readiness: Sumplete uses addition, Nerdle and Mathler require arithmetic, and Euclidea involves geometry. The Password Game mixes mathematics with other knowledge, while 2048 focuses largely on planning.

It is a mixed puzzle game with mathematical requirements, including digit sums and Roman-numeral products. Maintaining several rules at once makes checking and revising a solution central to its gameplay.

Euclidea is the geometry-focused option. Its straightedge-and-compass puzzles invite you to reason about lines, angles and circles. More advanced constructions extend beyond AMC 8 content.

2048 makes doubling and powers-of-two patterns visible. Its main challenge is arranging tiles and planning ahead, so it offers less direct arithmetic practice than Sumplete, Nerdle or Mathler.

Mobile compatibility and controls vary. Try the browser links on your device; a computer may be more convenient for entering equations or making precise geometric constructions.

Use one puzzle as a warm-up, ask students to justify a move, and compare strategies. Preview the site first for advertisements, account prompts and language; selected gameplay videos may include spoilers.
